It was so exciting to see the changes in our planted beans. One tiny shoot has grown and the roots are getting longer on all of the others in the soil. The children could see them though the clear plastic cup. They carefuly looked at their cups with the beans and soil and watered their beans. We wonder how many shoots will we see after the holiday?

On Wednesday we planted the beans into soil! We put them into clear plastic cups hoping to see the growing roots later. Once the roots get stronger and the shoots come out, we will replant our beanstalks into plant pots. This little episode has created a lot of excitement in class. I think the children liked the sound of the word 'soil' too, they kept repeating it while they were working. See more photos soon! As part of our Plant Project the children looked at the stages of growing a beanstalk. Each child put three broad beans into a plastic bag with some dampened cotton wool to germinate. We attached the bags to the window to make sure the beans have plenty of sunshine and warmth.
